For businesses looking for an adhesive that can cover a wide area in a short amount of time, spray adhesives are a great option. While spray glues often come in an aerosol can, these cans also come with some potential downfalls.
To combat this, Power Adhesives has developed its own line of sprayable 43 mm hot glue slugs as an alternative. These slugs are built for high-volume and high-performance applications where both speed and efficiency are key. They can form strong and lasting bonds while covering a wide area. From furniture assembly to automotive interiors, these products can be a welcome solution for many businesses.
In this article, our adhesive team takes a closer look at the Tecbond industrial spray glue slugs from Power Adhesives and provides a brief overview of a few products.
Why Spray Glue Slugs?
Spray adhesives are any adhesives that are applied in a spray or mist. They are commonly found in aerosol cans or sometimes in liquid form for bulk applications. While spray adhesives are useful, both cans and liquid adhesives have their downfalls. The sprayable glue slugs are designed to solve some of these problems.
Some benefits of spray glue slugs compared to other adhesive solutions include:
Solvent Free- Most aerosol and bulk liquid spray options contain solvents and harmful VOCs that can create dangerous work environments. The Tecbond adhesive spray glue slugs are a solvent-free and low-odor alternative for bonding foams, fabrics, plastics, and other substrates.
High Strength & Durability- Aerosol cans are not known for their high-strength or heat-resistant properties, but the sprayable hot glue slugs allow businesses to use hot melt in these applications. Hot melt can form strong adhesion to a variety of difficult substrate materials.
Wide Area Coverage- Compared to traditional hot melts that use bead or dot applications, spray adhesive slugs can efficiently cover a much wider area. Their wide-spray coverage also makes them great for uneven surfaces without wasting a lot of adhesive.
Easy to Apply- While the bulk liquid form requires specialized spray equipment and often a complex setup, the spray hot melt glue slugs from Power Adhesives just need a compatible spray glue gun. These slugs also help minimize overspray and reduce the mess that is a common problem with spray cans.
Cost-Efficient- Spray glue slugs can be a great cost-effective solution for high-output applications. They can efficiently cover larger bonding areas in a short amount of time and can reduce adhesive waste compared to aerosol cans. They also tend to need less expensive equipment than bulk liquid options.
A Closer Look at the Power Adhesives Spray Glue Slugs
Now that we have covered the many benefits of sprayable glue slugs, it is time to pick a product. Our team gives some specifics on some of the Power Adhesives Tecbond sprayable 1.75-inch hot glue slugs to help you choose the best one for your application.
A good general-purpose hot melt spray slug, this adhesive is one of the first spray glue slugs from Power Adhesives. With a long open time of three minutes, it is great for larger surface area bonding or when components need adjusting. It has a heat resistance up to 185°F (85°C) and can also be used in bead form.
Another general-purpose option, this spray hot glue slug also has a three-minute open time, but it has the highest initial tack in the series. This adhesive also has a low viscosity and is great for applications that experience high tension upon compression.
If you are looking for a very high-performance spray adhesive slug for tough packaging or product assembly applications, the 440 is a good choice. It has a high tack, and restricts creeping in compressed bonds. It also has an open time of around four minutes when sprayed.
*If you are looking for Tecbond 430, it has been discontinued, and we recommend Tecbond 440.
